John Wolcott Stewart (November 24, 1825October 29, 1915) was an American lawyer and politician from Vermont. He served as Speaker of the Vermont House of Representatives and as the 33rd Governor of Vermont before serving in the United States House of Representatives and briefly in the United States Senate. ==Biography== Born in Middlebury, Vermont,〔(【引用サイトリンク】title= Middlebury, Vermont )〕 Stewart attended the Middlebury Academy, and graduated from Middlebury College in 1846. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1850. He became the prosecuting attorney of Addison County from 1852 to 1854. He married Emma Seymour Battell on November 21, 1860, and they had five children: Emma Battell Stewart (1863 - 1926), Philip Battell Stewart (1865 - 1957), Robert Forsythe Stewart (1871 - 1880), Anna Jessica Stewart Swift (1871 - 1982), and John W.
